Employees expect companies to respect their circumstances and needs so they can feel comfortable and see a future there…

**According to American writer and speaker Jacob Morgan in his book The Employee Experience Advantage, the way of working we have known until now is obsolete. This opens up the challenge of building a new kind of company. How should it be led, and what should it offer employees to keep pace with a changing world?**

Today's employee is not the same as ten years ago. In 2007, they worked set hours at a specific physical location. Today, they can work from any device, at any time and anywhere. They can also shape their own future within the company: if it does not adapt to their new requirements, moving elsewhere becomes easier.

Just as people's expectations as consumers have changed enormously, those changes are also taking place in the workplace. Technology has given us new opportunities within everyone's reach, and we need to make the most of them. An employee who does not feel comfortable at work will simply look for a company that gives them what they need.

Companies now have an unavoidable responsibility to offer employees a supportive environment and suitable tools for professional and personal development, allowing the business to grow over time.

New workplace trends and commitment to the digital age

Today, people expect inspiring leaders, competitive companies and engaged employees. Workers need the tools to do their jobs and develop fully. The study “The digital worker: what they want and how they work” (Citrix, March 2017) states that 49% of respondents in Chile prefer to work or train remotely. With today's flexibility in time and location, they do not consider a physical office necessary for these activities.

The work of each team member is therefore increasingly personalized and adapted to their interests, specific work needs, environment and responsibilities. Likewise, the professional and personal development opportunities a company offers focus on specific interests, so employees can absorb the content, relate it to their own interests and achieve their goal: learning.

Information within a company is now shared. Everyone has access to collaborative technologies that provide real-time performance statistics, placing employees at the center of learning and helping employers identify what to offer according to the areas where support is needed. Being able to monitor results also motivates people and teams to improve using the tools and content available to them.

Today's employees need everything within reach: convenient, easy to access and relevant to their interests. The employee of the future is already here, ready for companies to respect their circumstances and needs so they can feel at home and see a future there.
