When employees feel engaged or inspired at work, productivity, employee retention and overall performance improve. That is why companies have increasingly adopted learning management systems and software that promote continuous education in the workplace and improve engagement.

As the market continues to grow, companies face the challenge of encouraging ongoing use of these tools. Employee boredom and dropout become obstacles to successful online training programs.

Learners themselves point to microlearning as the solution.

According to a Software Advice report, more than 50% of employees in the study said they would use their company's learning tools more if courses were shorter. In their view, longer courses are harder to digest and remember, and taking them also interferes with their daily work.

**Useful tips for implementing microlearning:**

  1. Make courses bite-sized, like social media content. They should be entertaining and use graphics and audiovisual elements.
  2. Engage your audience from the start and keep them engaged through the end of the module. A short module does not guarantee that learners will stay if the content is boring and the presentation uninspiring.
  3. Get to the point. Remove the history, background information and theories. Deliver the “how-to” immediately. Remember that learners are looking for just-in-time solutions.

Microlearning course design focuses on simplicity, interactivity and the rapid delivery of practical solutions. Short, relevant content combined with an engaging, participatory presentation ensures an effective, efficient learning experience and improves user engagement. Adapting to learners' expectations for immediate solutions is essential to the success of online training programs.
